Anthracite, also called hard coal , the most highly metamorphosed form of coal, has the highest carbon count and contains the fewest impurities of all coals, and has the highest calorific content as compared to other types of coals such as bituminous coal and lignite. Anthracite lump coal is mainly used in fertilizers (nitrogen, ammonia), ceramics, machinery manufacturing, small casting, forging, etc; anthracite fine coal is mainly used in metallurgical industry, as the pulverized coal injection (PCI) for blast furnaces.
Anthracite is an important species, despite its small share of production and consumption, and due to scarcity of resources and broad applicability, anthracite holds an important position in China coal market. According to current estimates, the proved anthracite reserves in China is 474 billion tons, which accounts for 10% of the total amount of coal resources. The anthracite reserves are mainly located in Shanxi Province, Henan Province and Guizhou Province. China now has six anthracite bases: Beijing Jingmei Group, Jincheng Coal Industry Group, Jiaozuo Coal Group, Henan Yongcheng mine, Shenhua Ningxia Coal Industry Group and Yangquan Coal Industry Group.
Regardless of how changes in the overall coal market, the future prospects of anthracite coal should be better than the overall coal market. This is mainly based on three judgments: first, the next few years, a number of power plants fueled by anthracite or meager-lean coal mixed with anthracite will be put into operation in Shanxi, Hebei and Shandong. Second, in order to reduce costs, the world steel industry have generally adopted the pulverized coal injection technology, increased the amount of pulverized coal injection, which opened up new markets for anthracite. Third, new forms of transformation of anthracite are emerging, and coal industry is getting diversified, and the industrial chain is extended.
